We have a favorite song around our house lately that we learned from Ernie and Bert about the letter ‘L.’ The two of them are trying to come up with words that begin with the letter L, and when Bert’s word list begins with the merely functional and utilitarian, Ernie presses him to think of “lovely lilting words,” so “la la la la lemon, la la la la lightbulb, la la la linoleum, and la la la la lumps in my oatmeal!” becomes “la la la la laughter, la la la la lollipop, la la la la lights in the sky…” you get the idea.
We sing the La La La song any old way, any old where (especially in the car), or stick to the original lyrics depending on the consensus. Yesterday I made up my own version in appreciation for two lovely ‘L’ items I acquired, a lavender plant for the backyard, and a set of linen thread for myself for bookbinding (found for a steal on ebay, hooray!!).
So in appreciation for all good L named things, be they lightly-scented or long-lasting…
sing “la la la la, with me!”
