PART III

Each leg of our adventure to the Northwest included a brief overnight stop in Portland, OR.  Portland is a charming and friendly city, but even more appealing to us because we have family there–on both sides.  My only regret was that our visits this trip were so short, only whetting our appetites.  Next time we’ll plan for more time to explore the city and to enjoy the company of cousins, sister, and their families (and a dog, rabbit, and aquarium full of fish!).

Can you believe cousin Ruth’s backyard view!?                                                                                                                                              Family Reunion trip 020

While Ruth apologized for not having any ‘toys,’ the boys busied themselves by collecting sticks and pinecones, and waging a war with the invisible pirates hiding in the trees.  They also liked the hammock!

On our way back south to CA we stopped a second time in Portland, only to be greeted by temperatures inching toward 100 degrees!  Whew.  I think these flamingos in Aunt Rachel’s front yard liked the heat…

We beat the heat by playing in a lovely shady park, one that gave the boys a true taste of the way playgrounds used to be.
